 Club Organiser of the Year

Club Organiser of the Year

This category always produces special club members who are totally dedicated to their club and sport - and again there were three worthy candidates to make things happen, with Silfan revitalising table tennis, not only in Fishguard but with a new league now thriving across the county after a number of years in the doldrums.

Huw has developed the junior section of golf as well as the ladies and men’s sections, whilst Leanne has done the same with regard to female football - and it must have been a job for the panel of judges I don’t envy in trying to separate this talented and committed trio!

Silfan Rhys-Jones (Table Tennis) – Winner

Silfan has made an extraordinary contribution to table tennis in Pembrokeshire this year. Since founding Fishguard Table Tennis Club in 2023, he has revitalised the sport locally, creating a thriving community hub and inspiring players of all ages. Under his leadership, the club now fields four teams in the Pembrokeshire League, with one finishing runners-up in Division 1, and participates in the Welsh Teams National Championships. Silfan secured funding from Table Tennis Wales for new tables and equipment, established a county-wide league, and provides coaching that motivates beginners and advances experienced players, demonstrating passion, dedication, and lasting impact.

Huw Jones (Golf) – Runner-Up

Huw has been nominated for his exceptional contribution to junior and community golf at Haverfordwest Golf Club. As Junior Organiser, he has built a thriving junior section of more than 85 active players and delivered five New2Golf programmes this year. His leadership helped the Juniors secure the Dyfed Golf Order of Merit for the second consecutive season and qualify once again for the National Club Championship in Builth Wells. Huw also played a key role in the club hosting a stage of the PING Wales Golf Championship and was instrumental in achieving gold status in the Women in Golf Charter — the first club in Wales to do so.

Leanne Jones (Football Coach in Football) – Runner-up

Leanne has transformed female football in Pembrokeshire through coaching, leadership, and pioneering initiatives. At Camrose AFC, she coaches Under 7s and Under 15s girls’ teams, serving as Head of Female Football and growing the section to over 100 players. She has delivered coaching programmes enabling 27 junior players to achieve coaching awards, creating a new generation of role models. Beyond youth football, Leanne founded a female walking football team, plays for Wales’s national walking football team, and made history as player-manager at the Walking Football World Cup. Her dedication has empowered girls and women across the county, leaving a lasting legacy.
